This version of the Absolut Mermaid is inspired by a love for the ocean and the earth, and what we regenerate from what we find on this earth physically and spiritually. A fusion of mixed media is used to create a whimsically exotic version of my Absolut Mermaid. The Absolut Mermaid serves Absolut up with a non-traditional use of found objects: plastic plant pots, cans, screen, plastic and wood, which evolve from one form of matter into a higher presence. By associating Absolut with the ideals of recycling and protecting the environment, I wanted to provoke the ideal of purity, as if the pearl of fine liquors were being brought to you from the depths of the ocean by one of men's ultimate fantasies, the Mermaid. The bottom half of the figure is fashioned from black plastic flower containers applied in a manner to resemble fish scales. The top half is fashioned from soda and beer cans in a collage-like manner. The bottle and the hair of the mermaid are fashioned from window screen, accentuated by the methodical use of nails and plastic from detergent bottles. — Lloyd Toone
